The TRANSCANTABRICO: San Sebastian - Santiago de Compostela in 8 days
Can you imagine eight days and seven nights on board of a train and still want more? That happens to the passengers of the "Transcantabrico" very often.
Boarding the "Transcantábrico Gran Lujo" is like going back in time to the 1920s, when the Pullman coaches that are today the saloons of this train, first rolled along the tracks.
After successive transformations and improvements, the Transcantábrico is today a real luxury hotel on rails, whose historic rooms and suites combine perfectly the charm of the early 20th century reminiscent trains with the most advanced comfort of the 21st century.
The lounge cars
The Transcantábrico Gran Lujo saloons are real jewels of the railway heritage, and four of them are original Pullman cars of the twenties of the last century. All of them have been specifically renovated and decorated for this luxury train, and they are the perfect backdrop to serve the daily breakfasts ŕ la carte and selected three course dinners.
Suites
The 14 Deluxe Suites of the Transcantábrico are designed for the customers’ rest and privacy. Those spacious Suites are equipped with all comforts that offer the first class accommodation.
The Suites offers a spacious wooden room decorated with exclusive details, with a saloon, bedroom and bathroom. They have a two metre long double bed or twin beds and a sofa which can be turned into a bed in the saloon. They are equipped with wardrobe, luggage rack, desk, safe, flat screen, music tuner, climate control, multimedia computer with free Internet connection, telephone and minibar. Their comfortable and spacious private bathroom has hidromassage shower/steam sauna, hairdryer and a varied set of welcome and bath items with unique fragance and toilet bag.
Passengers will sleep comfortably, as the train stops at a station at night to avoid the bothersome rattle and give guests a chance to go out and enjoy the city's nightlife, if they so wish.
The air conditioning, heating, piped music and lighting in the suites can be individually adjusted. The electrical outlets are 220v.
The large windows offer excellent views of the landscape.
An excellent team of professionals do their best to guarantee you have a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
As you travel along the coast of the Cantabrian Sea and cross rivers, woods and deep valleys, it is obvious that good food must play a very important role on the route of El Transcantábrico. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country are, in the opinion of many chefs and gourmets, the regions where you can find the best cuisine in Spain. The cheeses, meat, vegetables, fish and seafood are all universally renowned.
The restaurants on our route not only select the highest quality raw materials and have them prepared by excellent professionals, they are also the ideal setting for tasting the local cuisine.
All our menus include a careful selection of wines that blend harmoniously with the ingredients of each lunch and dinner. Coffee and liqueurs are also included.
The crew, which is made up of carefully chosen professionals, is here to take care of the passengers. Both in the communal lounges and in your private suite, every passenger can expect perfect and personalised attention.
The team is led by the trip supervisor, who, like the captain of a ship, will bring this rail cruiser safely into port. He can count on the help of the guide, the head waiter, the waiters, the music and entertainment organiser, the cleaning and security staff, the engine driver, the coach driver and the technical staff of the railway, who will all make sure that the passengers have nothing to do except enjoy their journey.
The guide will accompany you on all the visits and will become an inseparable companion of the group, even going with you to the various restaurants that we have chosen for lunch and dinner. The buffet breakfasts are served in the lounge carriages of the train.
Other services include laundry service, health care, special menus if you inform us when booking about any special dietary needs.
