Nerja is located in the eastern part of the Costa del Sol, at the foot of the majestic mountain range Sierra Almijara and is about 50 km from Malaga. The mountains just in front of the city's gates not only invite to have a walk, but also provide a very special attraction: the famous Balcon de Europa (Balcony of Europe) is located on top of the steep sea cliffs. From here you can enjoy magnificent views over the Mediterranean sea and the mountain range.
The old town of Nerja has the ambience of a perfectly preserved traditional Andalusian coastal town, with narrow streets and whitewashed houses. In the city center there is the church El Salvador, built during the 17th Century in the typical southern Spanish Mudejar-style.
While the east of Nerja is dominated by high mountains, in the west there are beautiful sand beaches which attract visitors from around the world. Overall, these beaches have a length of no less than 16 kilometers. There are, of course, modern hotels and tourist facilities that provide everything needed for perfect holidays.
Nerja still has one more attraction that makes it one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol: the caves of Nerja . These are several stalactite caves, the largest of which is almost five kilometers long. Particularly interesting is the fact that the caves were inhabited in prehistoric times by humans and that scientifically very important findings have been made. So alongside the stalactites which have been created by nature you may also enjoy prehistoric cave paintings.
