Tarifa is the southernmost city of the Iberian Peninsula. It is located in the Strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet, and offers magnificent views of the African coast which is just 13 km away.
It is known worldwide as a paradise for the lovers of wind surfing, and many regulars re-visit Tarifa time and again, being attracted by its climate, its wonderful beach and the relaxed atmosphere where no one seems to care about how you dress or what you do.
The old town is surrounded by a wall, and it looks like a Moorish maze of streets and whitewashed houses, offering a very special atmosphere where monuments alternate with shops, tapas bars and trendy night spots.
Its long beach, "Los Lances", which extends to the beach of Bolonia, next to Zahara de los Atunes, is of fine white sand. There are very nice views on the mountain and the green fields, with small hotels designed in total harmony with the environment.
Additionally, this beach is located next to two natural parks: Los Alcornocales, with the largest cork forests of Spain and one of the largest in the world, and the Parque Natural del Estrecho which protects birds as well as the marine mammals which pass in front of Tarifa frequently, such as dolphins, whales , orcas and sperm whales.
