Lloret de Mar is one of the best known holiday resorts along the Costa Brava, it belongs to the province of Girona and is located between the French border (100 km) and Barcelona (60 km).
The bay of Lloret is surrounded by pine forests, and it has a total of 6 beaches , all of coarse sand, with a length of 7 kilometers.
At a rock in the northern part of the bay there is the "Castillo d'en Plaja", a fortress which was built in 11th century to protect against attacking pirates. It is adjoint by the beach promenade with numerous cafes and restaurants, offering beautiful views over the coast.
Lloret de Mar has only 16.000 inhabitants, but during summer this number increases tenfold. There are no fewer than 250 hotels, 600 bars, 150 restaurants and more than 50 discotheques.
In summer Lloret attracts visitors of all ages who find great leisure and sports facilities and a lively night life.
In autumn and winter we find many retirees, who thanks to many special offers have the opportunity to escape from the cold weather in their home countries and enjoy the mild climate of this Mediterranean enclave .
Swimming is possible in Lloret from May until October, the water temperature during these month is always in excess of 20 degrees.
If you are interested in history, you should visit the nearby archaeological findings of "Puig de Castellet" , an old-Iberian settlement where we can still see the remains of town-walls and houses.
Lloret de Mar is as well an ideal destination to go shopping, on one hand because of the market which takes place every Tuesday behind the Casino, on the other hand because of the many shops where you can find leather goods, jewellery and cosmetic items.
